Rod Serling’s Night Gallery (1970 - 1973)

Showrunner Rod Serling is perhaps best known for his hit anthology series The Twilight Zone (1959 - present), which is known for its blending of science fiction with the uncanny. A decade after its release, Serling returned to television with another bold, boundary-pushing project, which fell mysteriously under the radar: Night Gallery . Premiering in 1969, this atmospheric series wove together tales of the eerie, the macabre, and the supernatural, each introduced by Serling himself against a backdrop of unsettling and surreal paintings.

For many years, Night Gallery has remained a lesser-seen part of Serling’s legacy, and rarely enjoys a theatrical screening. Violet Hour invites you to experience its pilot episode on the big screen, where its distinctive visuals and darkly poetic storytelling can be appreciated nearly 50 years after its release.

The Night Gallery pilot presents three spine-tingling tales. From unsettling bargains, to visions that blur the line between life and art, these stories feature standout performances from Joan Crawford and Roddy McDowall, as well as a directorial turn from an early-career Stephen Spielberg.

Drawing Workshop with Hackney Drawing Club

Following the screening, Hackney Drawing Club will lead a hands-on workshop inspired by Night Gallery ’s haunting imagery. Whether you’re a seasoned artist or just curious to put pencil to paper, all are welcome to join in.
